Leading in Eco-friendly Packaging: Apple Makes Full Use of Renewable Materials

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing our generation. Our air, food and drinking water, and even public health are threatened by climate change. This means that the changes Apple has made and is going to make, such as carbon neutrality in all operating sites, will not only affect our factories, stores, and offices but also benefit the wider community around us.

Apple’s products made of renewable materials

Technology giant Apple has announced an ambitious plan to achieve carbon neutrality in the whole industry chain and the whole product life cycle by 2030. By producing durable products, Apple makes full use of its raw materials and has set up another ambition, that is, one day, all Apple products and packaging will only use recycled and renewable materials, which will help to achieve the goal of carbon neutralization.

Apple continues to innovate in products. Taking the latest iphone13 series as an example, 100% recycled rare earth elements are used in mobile phone magnets, 100% recycled tin is used in the solder of the main logic board and battery management unit, 100% recycled gold is used in the electroplating of the main logic board and camera line, and recycled plastic water bottles are used as the dielectric materials of iPhone antenna.

Apples eco-friendly packaging: to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality

In terms of product packaging, Apple also continues to pursue innovation and launch environmentally friendly packaging to help achieve the goal of carbon neutrality. Apple’s latest iPhone 13 series removes the plastic film from the iPhone packaging box, which changes the plastic originally used for sealing packaging into a paper peel-off design! Users can open the packaging box of iPhone 13 series mobile phones with a slight pull. This innovative measure can reduce the use of plastic by 600 tonnes.

In addition, Apple has also made continuous efforts in the supply chain to bring systematic changes to the local community through cooperation with partners around the world. Through the launch of the supplier clean energy project, Apple works closely with manufacturer partners to help improve their energy efficiency and shift towards producing Apple products with 100% renewable energy. At present, more than 110 suppliers from 24 countries have made this commitment and all Apple’s final assembly plants have obtained zero-landfill certification. This means that 100% of the waste that would have been landfilled is reused. By 2020, 165 suppliers factories have joined the “zero waste” project.

Every enterprise has the responsibility to take action to reduce carbon emissions.
